Actigraphy data in STAGES dataset

I am looking for datasets with simultaneous PSG and actigraphy.

We are currently using the MESA dataset for which the actigraphy and PSG data are aligned (as stated here). This is already an excellent start for my project.

However, as usual, the more data the better. Therefore, I have had a look at the STAGES dataset which also has actigraphy that would be interesting but I was unable to answer the following two questions:

  1. From what I understood, the actigraphy data of the STAGES dataset is also available during the first night where the PSG was performed, correct?
  2. If yes, is the actigraphy data aligned in time with the PSG/sleep scoring as it is the case for the MESA data?

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback, Fab

Hey - thanks for using the site. I found this description of the protocol from the STAGES contributor.

Actigraphy data collection will begin the evening of the PSG, this is critical in order to correlate the rest/activity patterns of the Actigraph device with the findings of the PSG (sleep architecture, potential sleep disorders, etc.).

To your questions: Yes, the first night of actigraphy should correspond to the overnight PSG. You should be able to align the data based on clocktime. You may need to use the STAGES annotation files to identify the sleep period start/end, as opposed to MESA where those data are available in the CSV covariate file.

Excellent, thanks a lot for your prompt reply. We will test this as soon as we have gotten access to the data.

In case of questions we would get back to you via the forum.

Thanks a lot for taking care of all these very valuable datasets!

I have a quick question about the MESA data

I am trying to align the actigraphy and PSG data but cannot download the PSG XML annotations (error code 'token not authorised'). Is this something we need to request access for separately? Any other tips for merging the data would also be great!

Thank you!

Your access was granted to the mesa-commercial-use dataset (e.g., nsrr download mesa-commercial-use), so make sure your NSRR gem commands are formatted for that version of the MESA data.
