  • Serum – The 5 mL post-glucose tolerance test Serum tube is handled as above. The serum tube is allowed to clot for at least 40 minutes at room temperature (maximum time before centrifugation is 90 minutes). The tube is centrifuged at 4°C at 2,000 x g for 15 minutes or 3,000 x g for 10 minutes for a total of 30,000 g-minutes. The tube is then placed on ice and aliquoted. 1.0 mL of serum is transferred into clear-capped cryovial #34. 1.0 mL of serum is transferred into the 1.5 mL orange-capped cryovial #35. This serum will be stored in repository. The remaining cells in the serum draw tube and the tube itself can be discarded in the biohazardous waste.
